Dark chocolate often has a high cacao content of over 70% and offers an exclusive taste experience. The flavors vary depending on the origin of the cacao beans, production methods and compositions. As with a wine tasting, different layers and nuances can be discovered during the chocolate tasting. The flavor spectrum ranges from fruity to earthy, bitter notes, making it an ideal match for wine and cheese. Unlike sweet milk chocolate, which is characterized by a high sugar content and milk powder, dark chocolate is also suitable for people with milk allergies or vegan diets. It is also rich in flavonoids, which act as antioxidants and can provide numerous health benefits.

Laflor's dark chocolate

Laflor's sustainably produced dark chocolate is made from premium cacao varieties such as Criollo and Trinitario as well as endemic cacao varieties. We do not blend the cacao masses of the individual cultivation areas, which means that all our chocolates are single-origin. We completely avoid additives and support the ethical sourcing and sustainable cultivation of cacao. We work directly with all our Origins, know the farmers personally and visit them regularly. The chocolates are always named after the respective origin, which sometimes leads to slightly longer names for the bars.

Dark chocolate: special creations

We are constantly experimenting and creating new specials. Highlights include sustainable dark chocolate with Double Orange for the winter season or unique creations such as dark chocolate with alpine salt or Farina Bona. Dragées with roasted almonds from Sicily or hazelnuts from Piedmont are also popular for special occasions.

Bean-to-bar: Our chocolate production

The bean-to-bar process is the core of our chocolate production. We source sustainably grown cacao beans directly from farmers in Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela or Ecuador. By working directly with them, we ensure that we only use the best beans and also support fair working conditions and decent wages. We roast, grind, conch and temper the beans in our Swiss chocolate manufactory in Zurich. We attach great importance to the reduced use of organic sugar in our chocolates and completely avoid additives, flavorings and palm oil. Our philosophy is to highlight the natural taste and unique aromas of the cacao. Strict quality controls and regular product checks guarantee the high standard and outstanding quality of our chocolates.

Enjoy sustainable dark chocolate in an environmentally conscious way

Sustainability and ethical sourcing are top priorities at laflor. Cacao beans are sourced directly from smallholder farmers who receive fair prices and support for sustainable farming practices. Although not all of our chocolates are officially certified organic, we work closely with the farmers to ensure that they operate sustainably. Our manufactory in Zurich is therefore certified organic. The sugar, milk and almonds that we process are also certified organic. One good example is the “reserva legal” on the Brazilian Fazenda Vera Cruz, where part of the land is preserved as a protected forest area. We use organic sugar, organic cacao butter and do not add any additives or preservatives. We source our products such as oranges, almonds, hazelnuts, alpine salt and Farina Bona from sustainable and regional farms. Our cacao is transported to Europe in an environmentally friendly way by container ship and sometimes even by sailing freighters. To minimize our environmental impact even more, our packaging is also recyclable and compostable. Our passion for single-origin chocolate and our commitment to sustainability and ethics make us a pioneer in the industry. Is dark chocolate from laflor vegan and lactose-free?

Yes, we do not add milk powder to our sustainable dark chocolates. However, please note that the chocolates may still contain traces of milk, gluten or nuts.
