The time has finally come. At the beginning of January, we will move everything and everyone into our new manufactory, located in the former SBB railway workshops in Zurich’s Kreis 9 district. This is a big moment for us, as 500 m2 of space for the production facilities, the shop with hot chocolate take-out, the event location, offices and storage rooms await us there. A whole new era is about to begin for laflor.

Staying in Zurich will always be central to our business. We knew that keeping close to our many customers and friends here in the city was essential when we were scouting for the right new location.

Moving into this huge, listed space, which houses our chocolate production, has motivated the whole team to take the next steps in the development of our chocolate factory, which is still small. As part of the ‘Made in Zurich’ initiative, we are also committed to the city as a location.

How it all started

In 2017, we found the perfect space to realize our idea of bean-to-bar chocolate: the old pastry shop of the Buchmann bakery in DasProvisorium in Zurich Binz. The temporary use offered was perfect, and we were able to set up our first small manufactory here. In March 2018, we sold our first chocolate bars. Rather than the planned four years, we ended up staying here seven years. Our steady organic growth has meant that we are now outgrowing our space and are leaving our beloved coworking space in favor of our own workshop on Hohlstrasse. The history of the ‘SBB Werkstadt’ is as impressive as it is fascinating. Here on Hohlstrasse, between Europabrücke and Altstetten train station, we are easy to reach by public transport. We look forward to seeing many neighbors that we already know and love: our distribution partner Veloblitz, and our friends from The Tiny Factory Granola, ViCAFE coffee roastery and bar, Deux Frères gin, Zuriga coffee machines, Soeder natural care, and Bierwerk. Stay up to date on all our activities. Laura’s Monthly Chocolate Event, a much-loved event, will continue to take place. Once a month, the manufactory is open until 8 p.m. We invite other like-minded producers to present their great products at our place. This event is free and does not require registration; everyone is welcome. As you can imagine, preparations for the big move into the new premises are in full swing. Zelia Zadra and Ivo Müller, two of the founding members of the laflor team, are working almost around the clock to ensure that everything goes according to plan. With the move into our own premises, it will be easier and probably more attractive to share our cacao and chocolate knowledge with you. The event room, which overlooks the manufactory and shop, is perfect for workshops, tastings and events. Bookings are now possible (for events from March 2025). So, as you can imagine, every now and then, our team needs a little (or a lot) of the finest chocolate during these times. Good thing we’re pretty close to the source!
