Tesoro Escondido — Ecuador
A nature reserve with SUPERCACAO
The name Tesoro Escondido derives from the nature reserve where this cacao is grown. It is located in the province of Esmeraldas, in northern Ecuador. Magnificent flora and fauna can be found in the Esmeraldas, but there is a threat of deforestation
and consequently the disappearance of this wonderful place.
The cacao is grown by ASOPROTESCO, a farmers’ cooperative founded by families who have lived in the area for generations. While producing high quality cacao, they also protect the local flora and fauna at the same time. Agroforestry allows them to cultivate cacao in the shade of other local trees to diversify agriculture.
