The chocolate manufactory from Zurich

Welcome to laflor, the Zurich-based Swiss chocolate manufactory where sustainability, quality and craftsmanship come together in a unique way. Right from the start, we have been committed to sustainable business practices and organic products. Our sustainable chocolates are made according to the bean-to-bar process. This means that we carry out the entire production process in our manufactory – from roasting the beans to the finished bar.

Sustainable chocolate production

Our day-to-day activities are characterized by sustainability, which is a key requirement for our work. We source our cacao directly from smallholder farmers in South America, instead of anonymous trade via the commodity exchange. The cacao beans make their way to Europe in container ships, and our cacao from Colombia even arrives in a CO₂-neutral way by sailing ship. We ensure that our partners cultivate and operate sustainably, despite some of them still being in the process of becoming certified organic.

Production process in the chocolate manufactory

In the former SBB workshops in Zurich Altstetten, we process the cacao beans in small batches. After roasting, the beans are transferred to the stone mélangeur, where they are mixed with organic ingredients such as sugar and cacao butter and processed into chocolate over a period of 72 hours. The friction in the mélangeur generates heat, which allows the flavors to unfold and the sour and bitter notes to dissipate. After a maturing period of up to one month, the chocolates are tempered, molded and packaged by hand.

Fine chocolate creations

The single-origin laflor chocolates are more than just a treat – they are a culinary work of art. We offer a wide range of fine chocolate creations. From classic bars, including milk chocolate, dark chocolate or vegan chocolate, to special creations such as chocolate dragées – each one telling a story of quality and taste.

Quality and Excellence

Laflor combines the highest standards of quality and design. We place a high value on the traceability of ingredients and respect resources, health and sensory perception. Each of our chocolate bars is single origin, meaning it consists exclusively of cacao from one specific country of origin. This allows us to bring out the unique flavors of each region. All of our high-quality chocolates are certified organic and free from any additives or preservatives.

Environmentally friendly packaging

Our chocolate bar packaging is 100% recyclable and consists of three components: bioplastics, NatureFlex film made from wood fibers, and paper made from agricultural waste. All materials are compostable and offer protection against light and air. The chocolate production is powered by renewable energy, which meets our sustainability requirements.

laflor is a member of the “Made in Zurich” initiative, which promotes urban production and seeks innovative approaches in the social, economic and architectural context of the city. As part of this network, we are committed to sustainability, innovation and excellence. We invite you to experience our chocolate production up close during tours and tastings at our Swiss manufactory in Zurich.
